Journalism Links

You don’t need a degree in journalism to be a journalist.

A journalist is a person who collects, writes, or distributes news or other current information. A journalist’s work is called journalism.

I am a journalist by the above definition.  I am a Citizen Journalist who distributes and comments on current news information. I don't need a degree in journalism to do that. Nobody does.

If you are for example a radio broadcaster you do need to be able to read a commercial on the air without struggling and sounding like you are reading a book.

Writing and commenting in print is much different from commenting live on radio or tv.

If you struggle or stumble with news copy or prewritten commercials it will be vary obvious as opposed to writing your comments about a news story.

If you are trying to sell something but sound like a 10 year old it means you need to revisit your journalism degree.

A Citizen Journalist has an advantage over radio and tv broadcasters in that you can correct yourself before publishing comments.

If I read prewritten commercials I would probably sound like a 10 year old because I have no journalism degree that has trained me to speak on radio and tv.

When people reference their "journalism degree" on radio to remind me they have been trained to speak in a professional manner I expect them to sound like a professional and not like a 10 year old struggling to read news or commercial copy.

I think it is useful to take some individual journalism courses to enhance the ability to comment on the news if you are a "citizen journalist".
